A SHORT HISTORY OF THE SAINT-DONAT SNOWMOBILING CLUB The Club was officially formed in 1966 by Paul Mathieu and Maurice Charrette under the name of ''Club Motoneige Laurentides de Montcalm''. In 1971, the name was changed to the ''Snowmobile Club of Saint-Donat''. In 1975, a relay station on top of Mont Ouareau was constructed about 6 miles from St-Donat on Trans-Quebec trails # 33.In 1988, the merging with another snowmobile club resulted in the St-Donat Snowmobile Club becoming one of the largest in Quebec. In recent years, the St-Donat Snowmobile trail circuit has grown and riding in this area is now considered by most to be the finest snowmobiling in North America. In 1980, under the presidency of Denis Lamarche, a marketing program directed towards the Northeast U.S. resulted in many Americans visiting our area. Today, snowmobiling has become a major source of revenue for the village of St-Donat. For the past two years, St-Donat has hosted the ''Snowshoot''. This event lasts almost one month and allows the four manufacturers to test and show off their machines. Journalists from all over the world, including Europe and Asia visited St-Donat and all articles written, without exception confirmed the St-Donat region as a snowmobiling destination of choice. Today, the St-Donat Snowmobile Club has a membership of more than 2000. |
